Tour information

Usually 6 to 8 hours of riding. This equestrian trek is intended for persons practicing regularly riding and with similar practice at a level Galop 3-4 or riders with a mastery of 3 gaits (walk, trot, canter) varied terrain and completely autonomous horse.

​All luggage and equipment for this tour will be loaded onto pick yaks or horses, which are provided by the local herders and local nomads who will lead us on this journey the heart of tha Khangai Mountain. No support vehicle will follow in this rugged and roadless territory on our trek in the Naiman Nuur area located in the Khangai Mountain.

Overview

Explore the landscapes and all the landmarks of the Orkhon Valley. Experience nomadic lifestyle by riding through the breathtaking Eight 8 lakes (Naiman Nuur National Park) on a 9-day horse riding trip. Eight Lakes is exceptional combination fresh water lash green forest picturesque mountains and many natural resources where animals and people leisurely live in the summer time. These lakes with fresh water and interconnected by ground water channels located 5-30km distance from each other such as Shireet, Khaliut, Bugat, Khaya, Khuis, Onon, Doroo, Bayan-Uul are called Naiman Nuur (Eight Lakes).

Itinerary

Day 1 Visit in Ulaanbaatar

Arrival at the airport, meeting with our driver and guide. Transfer to your hotel, settling in and rest. We will take you in the restaurant. Let's immerse ourselves in the heart of the Mongolian history, in the wonderful National History Museum. Three floors of a rich, glorious, violent and noble past, from prehistory to Soviet period, including the creation of the great Mongolian Empire by Genghis Khan. Walk in the centre of Ulan-Bator. Discovery of Gengis Khan Square and the House of Parliament. Then Mongolian traditional show: folkloric dances, contortion, and of course khoomi, the overtone singing. Welcome dinner in Mongolian style restaurant. Overnight in the hotel. B/L/D

Day 2 Travel to Kharkhorin

Toady we will drive to long distance for 6 hours about 350 kms. Journey to Kharkhorin, the former capital of Mongolia. The legendary city of Genghis Khan was founded in 1220 and was one of the stages of the silk road. Visit of Erdene Zuu Monastery, built in 1586 by a nomad prince. The Chinese and Tibetaninspired buildings are surrounded with 108 sacred stupas. Visit of the Museum of Kharkhorin. We’ll be staying overnight in ger camp. B/L/D

Day 3 Kharkhorin-Orkhon Valley

Today we will drive to the Orkhon Valley (104km about 4 hours). Inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, the valley is a land of nomadism and many breeders set their summer camp there. On the way, we will see Uurtin Tokhoi Canyon scenic spot. We will meet our horse keeper and get prepared for the trip. Relax in ger camp by Orkhon river. B/L/D

Day 4 Orkhon waterfall

In the morning began the horseback riding trip to Ulan Tsutgalaan falls white flood flowing on the black stone, transformed in rainbow by a short sunray. These 16-metres (52,49 feet) falls are just magic! They were formed 20.000 years ago, as a result of a unique combination of earthquakes and volcano eruptions. Afternoon we continued to ride to Buurug Valley. Tented camping near nomad family. B/L/D.

Day 5, 6 Buureg-Khuis Lake

Horse riding until the entrance of Naiman Nuur National Park (8 lakes). We'll follow our path across the steppes scattered with edelweiss, then we'll ride along the forests of larches and pines, before stopping for the night at Buurgiin Oroi, on the edge of a small wood, in front of the mountains of Naiman Nuur Park. Tented camping near nomad family. B/L/D

Day 7 Ride to Shireet lake

We enter Naiman Nuur Park via Khangai Mountain pass and the landscape completely changes. The green infinite steppes give way too much more diversified landscapes: forests of larches and pines, wild roses and wild flowers, junipers, gooseberries, and wild onions. We passing serval lakes before stopping for the night at Khuis lake. Tented camping near nomad family by lake. B/L/D

Day 8,9 Journey Lake Shireet

We will ride across plains and forests then we arrived at the lake Shireet. The largest lake of the park (10 square kilometres, 3,86 square miles) and the highest (2366 meters, 1,47 mile). The landscape is of volcanic origins here and extinct invisible volcanoes are dotted in the landscape. Early summer, lot of wildflowers grow on the meadows.  Life with the nomads and discovery of the activities bound to yacks breeding. We'll participate in making dairy products. Tented camping near nomad family. B/L/D

Day 10, 11 Lake Shireet-Shuranga river

We'll begin riding along the Shuranga river until the Rock of Shuranga, then we'll retrace our steps to find again the green steppes dappled here and there by white yurts. And we join our family and attend the preparation of a Mongolian barbecue that we'll enjoy for dinner. Overnight in the ger with host a family. B/L/D

Day 12 Uyanga town-Khogno Khan

After breakfast we separate from our horses and guides and then start with a 4x4 with whom we join the road through the village of Uyanga and we will drive to long distance of Khogno Khan National park (260 kms about 6 hours). Discovery of the park: semi desert steppes, taiga, stunning rocky formations, 80 km long sand dunes, are characteristic of this arid area nicknamed "Mini-Gobi".  Visit of the sand dunes of Elsen Tasarkhai. It is optional: to hire a camel riding.

Day 13 Khogno Khan-Ulaanbaatar

Back to Ulaanbaatar (250kms about 4 hours). Last herds of wild horses crossing the road outside our dumbfounded eyes, last yurts smoking far away, the steppe will be with us until the last moment. Arrival in town and settling in at your hotel, where you can rest a few moments. Rest of the day free. With our guide, you can go and shop in the center of the city. B/L/D

Day 14 Departure

Breakfast at the hotel. We go with you to the international airport of Ulaanbaatar. The transfer can be organized at the time you want, according to the schedule of your flight.

We offering camel riding, horse trekking and hiking tour based on local community. Nomadic families live in the area are main parts of the tours. They will supply camels, horses, meals, and accommodation for tourists.
